Our Story
It all started in 2007 in Baltimore, MD. Shane was in his medical residency & Ryan had recently finished his. They worked in different hospitals, but through six degrees of separation there was some overlap of their social circles. Shane was hosting a farewell party for a colleague at a local Korean BBQ restaurant that also had private karaoke rooms upstairs (Shane is rumored to love karaoke, despite the fact that he cannot hold a note). Ryan happened to show up at this party without knowing it was going to involve karaoke (Ryan is rumored to despise karaoke & will only sing with massive amounts of peer pressure). That evening Shane sang a sloppy, Soju & OB Lager-inspired version of Bon Jovi’s 'Livin’ on a Prayer' and Ryan instantly knew that he had found his soul mate (at least that is Shane’s version of the story). The rest is history.
After a year and a half of dating, Shane got a fellowship position in New York City. Shane was able to convince Ryan that he was a “sure bet” and that Ryan should quit his job and move to NYC. They lived in Manhattan for a few years but eventually settled in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. They went on vacation to Chile and Argentina for their anniversary, and while hiking in Patagonia, Shane proposed to Ryan. He said “Yes.” Since their favorite places on Earth include water, beaches, and mountains, they decided Lake Tahoe would be the perfect location to tie the knot for their 10th anniversary. Shane and Ryan hope you’ll join them for a combined summer vacation and wedding celebration this August.
